Debt

Debit is bad. Debt matters. When the federal government increases the debt, they sell bonds to investors. When investors buy government bonds, they are starving investment for capital in private industry. In otherwords, we are shifting our resources from wealth production to entitlement programs. That is unsustainable. I believe that the government should run as close to a zero bottom line as possible. In good times, we should slowly pay off the debt. In bad times, we can let the budget exceed the revenues for a short time. Therefore, I am against an amendment mandating a balanced budget. The voters need take care of those who spend recklessly. The Republicans discovered that the hard way. It looks like the Democrats will soon find the same fate.

Education

I believe in local control. There is no place in our schools for the national government. The only role for the national government should be to provide a national standard test which states can chose to use if they wish…with no strings attached. The Department of Education was started under President Carter in 1976. They have failed to improve our school. The whole department should be eliminated.

Energy

The Department of Energy is another colossal waste of money. This was another department started under Jimmy Carter which has completely failed at their stated goal…energy independence. We import more oil now then we did when the department was started. Since that time, not a single nuclear power plant has been built.

We need to fund more nuclear power. We need to start reprocessing of nuclear fuels. We need to allow offshore drilling and to hell with the caribou. Let’s drill in the ANWR. If we can’t drill were no one will ever see it, where the hell can we drill.

Environment

This is one area where I believe the national government must be involved, but like everything else, the EPA has overstepped their bounds. CO2 is not a pollutant and the clean air act was never intended to give the EPA power over energy consumption in this country. The EPA needs to be reigned in (defunded) and downsized.

Health Care

Our health care system is broken, and it is government that broke it. More government isn’t going to fix it. I believe health care costs can only be controlled by free market forces. Interstate insurance needs to be allowed and our tax code needs to be fixed so that individuals are empowered to take care of their own lives instead of handing it off to others (either their employer or the government)

Immigration

I am all for legal immigration. I am all against illegal immigration. The borders are real and need to be protected. People here illegally who commit crimes need to be put on a bus back home or spend their time in jail. There are no jobs Americans won’t do. There are some jobs Americans won’t do for too little money. Illegals hold down wages for those Americans who struggle the most….the unskilled workers. Let the opportunities of this country be first offered to Americans. If we are strong and growing, there will be plenty of opportunity for invited guests.

National Defense

I am for a strong national defense. We need to realize we live in a dangerous world and that we are currently fighting a war (not reacting to man-made disasters).

Our soldiers are to be honored and treated as heroes. Fund them and let them fight, or bring them home.
