The World Food Bank is warning that food prices are at a “dangerous level”.

The World Bank’s food price index rose by 15 percent between October and January alone. The increase has been driven by volatile global trading in wheat, corn and soybeans. Would the people that advocated using the power of the government to force our food into our gas tanks please step forward. No one wants the spot light now that the unintended consequences are clear.

It’s a lot more than cut ‘em, fry ‘em and eat ‘em.

Some places, like McDonald’s, get a head start, blanching the fries in 170-degree water, frying in 365-degree vegetable oil for 50 seconds and then freezing. This pre-fry ensures that the fries will be cooked through to the middle on location, and freezing converts the potato’s moisture into ice, harming the cellular structure of the potato and making it easier for the water to be released when it’s converted to steam through heating.
