The man with a little money in the bank is more worried that he thereby will be taxed more, earn no interest, or have his small sum expropriated, than the borrower is worried that he will have to pay back the full amount of quite a lot that he borrowed for his mortgage, credit card, or student loan. The saver is suspect of doing something bad to the borrower; savers are always active-voice beneficiaries, debtors passive-voice victims.

Ultra-liberals like to be called progressives. I can’t figure out why. There is nothing progressive about their ideas. For instance, Dennis Kucinich is proposing a windfall profit tax on the oil industry. We tried it before. Jimmy Carter passed a windfall profits tax and it led to long lines at the pumps.
So progressives want no changes to Social Security (a 60 year old program), Medicaid or Medicare (40 year old programs). They rehash keep rehashing failed policy after failed policy. They have a saying for that.
If a conservative says that poor kids have a bad work ethic and liberals jump to the conclusion that the conservative is talking about “black” kids…who is the racist? That would be you Mr. Carter.
We say poor and you hear black.

Europeans have been living in the moment for years. Spend now…forget about tomorrow. No babies. No savings.
Guess what? The future has arrived and it aint pretty. The economies of Greece and Italy are collapsing. Not coincidentally, they have had extremely birth rates for years.
If the problem with socialism is, as Mrs. Thatcher says, that eventually you run out of other people’s money, much of the West has advanced to the next stage: It’s run out of other people, period.
How The Government Has Caused America’s Obesity Problem: The theory is that the grains and bread are carbohydrates that is converted into sugar, keeps you hungry and saps your of energy. Your cells thirst for protein and fats. If true, this would be yet another example of the government using science incorrectly. Science is never settled. Someone please tell Al Gore.
I don’t want the government telling me what to eat. It’s like fat nurses telling me how to be healthy. When you blowhards can play competitive a sport at an age approaching 50 and burning over a 1000 calories in the process, then you can tell me your opinion on health. Otherwise, stop wasting my money acting as some authority on health.
As a side note: I’m on a diet that has been going great. I lost 15 pounds (from September until Christmas) and I did it by simply reducing my calorie intake. During that time, carbohydrates have ranged from 30% to 55% of my diet. My speed and endurance has improved dramatically.
I have been using an app on my phone and on my computer called LoseIt to track my calories, weight and nutrition. I was so successful, that my wife started using it and she is halfway to her goal after a month.

I just saw an Google advertisement for Alan Grayson on Instapundit. That’s a very strange place for a liberal to advertise. But it occurred to me that if I click the ad, then Grayson will have just a little less money to spread his nonsense. So next time you see an online advertisement for someone you disagree with…CLICK IT. You don’t have to read it. A million clicks can drain a bank account.

Progressives have this nasty habit of repeating errors over and over. Barack Obama learned nothing from history. His socialism by bureaucracy and big government ideas are FDR all over again. He sells his ideas as new, but they are not. Progressives like to re-label old ideas and try again. Hell…they re-labeled themselves “liberal” and the re-re-labeled themselves “progressive” again…like we wouldn’t notice.
In the Occupy Wall Street camps, they too are failing history. They have probably all heard of Woodstock. I bet 90% of them wish they could have been there. 1969 started with idealistic youth coming together in a big party and casting off the world of their elders. They had fun, but there idealism soon gave way to human nature. Woodstock gave way to the Altamont Speedway later that year when a young man, high on drugs, pulled a gun and was stabbed by the Hell’s Angels. They idealism of Woodstock came crashing down.
The Occupy Wall Street crowd started off as a bunch of idealistic (but misguided) youth with grand visions of remaking society…and today could be the Altamont Speedway moment. A bloodied body has been pulled from a tent at an Occupy Obamaville in Vermont. These camps have been havens for drugs, rape and violence. Surprise! This is the society you create when you cast aside rules and and rule enforcement.

The protesters around the country who have gathered to “Occupy Wall Street” are another failed experiment in left-wing ideas. It may have started with noble intentions (in their minds), but it is clearly falling into chaos, crime and violence. This is how many left-wing experiments end (think Soviet Union, China, Cuba, etc). The reason for their repeated failure is the left thinking they can change human nature.
The highly educated left-wingers are so full of confidence. They believe that they can articulate a better way and get everyone to work together in a coordinated common cause…but that’s not how people operate. People work for their own self interest. The proof is written in history. The left collective concepts fail time and time again…and yet they never learn.

On Saturday morning, I met a man who said he was an artist and told me that “the world’s f—ed up” in large part because “Bush took all the money and gave it to the Chinese to pay for the war.” After a while, he told me that he normally lived at a couple of “squats” in other parts of town but that he had met some people from Code Pink who told him they had a tent in McPherson Square. So he came to the park. He’s certainly not alone — there are plenty of other homeless there, he told me — but it’s hard to say how many homeless are part of the permanent Occupy DC contingent.
It reminds me of when we drafted convicts to send to Vietnam to protect our college kids…and we all know how well that worked. One big difference: this is not war and no one is getting killed. They are drafting the homeless to protect our poor babies from being uncomfortable. No wonder they are having a hard time finding a job. Their first instinct is to let someone else to the job when the going gets tough.

Do you stand with them? I certainly am not ready to scrap a system which has produced the most prosperity in human history for a system that has failed every time it was tried.

Being on the left means that you divide the world between rich and poor much more than you divide it between good and evil. For the leftist, the existence of rich and poor — ” inequality” — is what constitutes evil. More than tyranny, inequality disturbs the left, including the non-Communist left. That is why so many on the left fell in love with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez and, at other times, with every left-wing dictator. Non-leftists see these men as thugs; much of the left sees them as fighters for equality. Yes, leftist dictators extinguish freedom and steal land and businesses from the rich — but none of this disturbs most of the left.
How far will the current strain of American leftist go to impose their ideals? According to polls, 30% of the Wall Street Occupiers would use violence.
President Obama would be wise to steer clear of this group instead of embracing them…but I have never found the president to be wise.

Conservatives know that we live in a republic, not a democracy. In contrast, liberals are always pushing for democracy. Liberals or Progressives (or whatever the left calls themselves these days) want democracy only until they are in control. Then they advocate for administrators who are free from politics.
At the core of “Progressivism,” as it was called then and is again today, was the view that more and more of the business of individuals and society was best supervised by expert administrators sealed off from the transient pressures of popular politics. So at the same time that Progressives championed “more democracy” in the form of populist initiatives, referendum, and recalls, they also developed a theory deeply anti-democratic in its implications. As the famous phrase from Saint-Simon had it, “the government of men is to be replaced by the administration of things.” But this undermines the very basis of democratic self-rule. No one better typifies the incoherence of Progressivism on this point than Woodrow Wilson, an enthusiastic theorist of the modern administrative state who couldn’t clearly express why we would still need to have elections in the future. In Wilson’s mind, elections would become an expression of some kind of watery, Rousseauian general will, but certainly not change specific policies or the nature of administrative government…Stephen Hayward, The American

Can you imagine if these idiots ran the country? First of all, it would take twice as long to say EVERYTHING…because the crowd repeats every word like a mindless electronic toy. Secondly, they make decision based on consensus. Anyone who has ever run a company knows that won’t work. Of course, these are out of work losers who don’t even have jobs. That explains a lot.
