Democratic Senators Start the Ball Rolling
Dick Durbin’s amendment to FCC legislation says (Hat tip to Michelle Malkin)
To encourage and promote diversity in communication media ownership, and to ensure that the public airwaves are used in the public interest.
This amendment passed on a straight party line vote (LINK).
This is scary stuff. You can bet this won’t be used against ABC, CBS and NBC…all with liberal leanings. To a liberal, the major networks are objective reporters that don’t need diversity. Talk radio however is in need of changing. These aren’t my thoughts. This is what liberals have been saying for years.
This amendment will not only attack free speech, it is an assult on a basic free market principal. Liberal talk radio is unsuccessful because not enough people want to listen to liberal talkers. I could come up with a variety of reasons to explain liberal failure, but the simple truth is liberal talk can’t make money because they can’t generate an audience.
The Democratic solution is right out of Atlas Shrugged. Competition is an evil that needs to be corrected by an all powerful central government. This scenario has taken place far too often lately. The Democrats want to reward failure (liberal talk) and punish success (conservative talk).
