Liberals questioning Republicans
Start with Herman Cain who wants to simplify taxes and bring down debt
Rick Perry touting bipartisan support to balance budgets in Texas. He is talking about jobs in the energy sector.
Romney says he can lead, unlike Obama.
Perry’s plan: back to domestic energy. Reduce regulation. Says Romney has been running for 6 years.
Michelle Bachman: asked about Wall Street executives not going to jail. As she tries to explain that the problem is Washington, she was interrupt by the liberal questioner.
The question is transferred to Newt Gingrich who agrees with Michelle Bachman. Newt then goes after the media.
Ron Paul is then asked about the Fed. He says the artificial booms are the problem.
Rick Santorum’s turn: says manufacturing jobs if the business climate is changed. Zero percent tax on manufacture and get rid of regulations. Then agrees with Perry about domestic energy jobs. He says his plan is the only one that has a chance to pass.
Huntsman talks of innovation and free markets.
Newt is asked about Medicare. Is the government wasting money. Newt rejects any panel to make decision not to test or treat.
Bachman reminds us Medicare is going broke. He says the President wants Medicare to collapse so Obama care can take over.
Charlie Rose asks Huntsman what kind of advisors he would hire. He mentions his family as a model. He talks of the political attacks that keep good people away…and then gets a laugh about the 9-9-9 plan.
Cain says his 9-9-9 plan will pass and it is the best plan because it gets rid of the current plan. He was then asked about his advisers. He says his 9-9-9 plan ws developed by Rich Lowery.
Romney is badgered by the Bloomberg reporter about what a hypothetical question is. She needs a dictionary.
The question is about a Wall Street bail out. He uses the opportunity to say the bail out was not effectively implemented.
Herman Cain agrees with Romney about implementation.
Newt interjects. He says the people who were in charge (and failed) during the last crisis are still in charge and they did their job in secret, so we have learned nothing.
Paul says Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac where to blame for the housing crisis. Propping up the debt is the burden on the economy.
Reagan clip…liberals pushing Republicans for higher taxes. Perry handles it well by reminding Charlie Rose that Reagan made a deal to raise taxes and lower spending, and we got was higher taxes.
The WP proposal a false choice. Romney doesn’t take the bait.
Newt interjects about the previous question which he says is typical of Washington think.
Bachman talks of her fight against raising the debt ceiling. We spend too much. The liberal questioners keep going with the assumption that raising taxes will reduce the debt.
A clip of Herman Cain and his 9-9-9 plan. He needs to explain his plan to Bloomberg. He says his plan expands the base so it is revenue neutral.
Bachman warns that the 9-9-9 plan will create a new revenue stream…sales tax.
Clip of Romney on China and currency manipulation. Huntsman is then questioned. He says we are not in a trade war yet, but we could be very quickly if we try to punish them and that will hurt everyone.
Romney is asked about campaign promises and China debt.
Perry is back to energy which will help manufacturing.
Santorum on competition. 9-9-9 won’t pass. Repeal Obama care. Waivers won’t work.
Had to miss some. My dog Charlie was tearing apart a plastic Halloween pumpkin.
At break, we hear from Matthew Dowd…a liberal for sure, but he is not taking partisan shots.
Each break has conservative position given by children. They are condescending.
Bachmann reminds us that Perry worked for Al Gore and then asks about trust. He says most people grew up Democrats, as Reagan did.
Cain asks Romney about his plan being simple, transparent and neutral. Romney says simple doesn’t always fix big problems.
Gingrich says many things in Romney’s plan is good, but he is surprised by the capital gains cuts for only middle income Americans. Romney says they are the ones hurt. Gingrich is right. Give the break to all.
Huntsman asks Romney about his business experience, how can he win when he cut jobs. He reminds us of the businesses he created like Staples and Sports Authority.
Paul asks Cain a former fed director, Herman Cain, about auditing the Fed. Cain says he was misquoted. He didn’t sit on the Fed board when all the stuff under Bernake went down.
Perry is comparing Romney Care to Obama Care. Romney is proud of what he did in Massachusetts. He says he took care of the uninsured with out effecting those with insurance. That’s just not believable.
Romney asks Bachmann to expand on jobs and helping the middle class, beyond tax changes. Her plan is not just taxes. It’s about regulatory reform.
Me…what about tort reform
Santorum opposed TARP. The business people supported it. Why should we trust that their plans won’t morph in Washington into something no one wants. Herman Cain wants a 2/3 majority vote before they can raise the 9-9-9 plan.
Another commercial of a kid lecturing me.
During this commercial gives me time to comment…I want the field to narrow so we can spend mire time on fewer candidates. My top 3 are Romney, Gingrich and Santorum.
Perry is back to healthcare. He says tort reform was passed in Texas and reforms that drove down insurance costs. Wants block grants to states for Medicare and Medicaid. Let the governors figure out better ways instead of Washington mandates.
Cain is asked about the most successful Fed chair. He says Alan Greenspan. Santorum is smiling. Cain says fix the fed.
Ron Paul says Alan Greenspan was a disaster. He likes Paul Volker and the gold standard.
A small business owner asks about credit. Romney says Obama is in over his head and the wrong people to write bank regulations was Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. Small banks are getting killed by regulations.
Bachmann calls Dodd-Frank the jobs destruction act. Says the $5 ATM fee is a function of Dodd-Frank
Cain says get rid of the Capital gains tax.
Paul says repeal Darbanes-Oxley.
Perry is asked about Solyndra. Perry says the federal government should not be making those investments. Perry says it is OK for states and defends his enterprise fund. Says it is part of the reason Rexas is leading the nation in job creation.
Clip of Bush and home ownership
Newt is asked about home ownership and the American dream. Newt says we need to get back on track, then we can afford homes.
Romney bashes stimulus. It doesn’t work. Green jobs money has gone down the drain. Temporary tax breaks don’t get employers to hire.
Perry is asked about income disparity. Perry blames Obama. a big mistake in my estimation. Santorum says it is the break down of the American family.
A heckler…idiot
Bachman says she knows poverty and she worked hard to rise up.
Cain was poor. His dad worked 3 jobs. We need to work on the right problem.
Gingrich is an Army brat. We need a leader who can find a solution.
Paul’s motivation is liberty.
Santorum wants to create an environment for manufacturing.
Huntsman speaks of the dignity of a job. I thought he left 15 minutes ago.
Perry talks but says nothing
Romney gives a string of platitudes.
Debate over.
I want to hear more from Gingrich and Santorum.
