Solyndra went bankrupt after receiving a loan from the Obama Administration and according to the AP, this is there defense

Administration officials defended the loan restructuring, saying that without an infusion of cash earlier this year, solar panel maker Solyndra Inc. would likely have faced immediate bankruptcy, putting more than 1,000 people out of work. (link)

So we spent half a billion dollars to keep about 1000 people working for less than a year. That is $500,000 per person.
