2011 September

Back in Jan of 2010, I wrote:

I bet a large percentage of people who believe in liberal policies positions consider themselves “moderate”. They have little knowledge of history and how far their philosophies are out of step with the founding fathers. They have little use for facts and logic. They base their decision on how they feel…and they feel like they have “moderate” positions. (link)

Now there is a Pew Research Center study that backs me up

Today, while voters as a whole agree with Republicans’ evaluation of their party as conservative, they disagree with Democrats, who on average see their party as moderate rather than liberal. (link)

Stop saying we are a democracy. The United States is a republic. Democracies are bound to fail. The United States is living experiment to see if a republic can last.

You may wonder what is wrong with democracies. It’s simple. The poor and unproductive outnumber the rich and productive. In a democracies, the poor can just vote themselves what others have created. This is a recipe for disaster. Turst me. I’m no genius to figure this one out. Here is what Aristotle had to say about democracies thousands of years ago:

If the majority distributes among itself the things of a minority, it is evident that it will destroy the city.

Our founders knew this because they were students of history. They where determined to build a system on the best of the past, but also determined to fix what went wrong.

In our system today, we have people complaining about the money in politics. The typical refrain is that only the rich advance. That’s not true. Bill Clinton did not come from a rich family. Neither did Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter…

The only rich Presidents in the last 50 years that I can think of are the Bush’s and John Kennedy. But money does come into play…and that is good. Why? Because those who made money also made the country. Would it make sense to say those who sit back and wait for a handout have the same say as those who employ hundreds and work hard their whole lives.

I say that  we have struck a good balance between the needs of the poor without handing them the keys to the city. So stop whining about campaign financing. Stop saying we are democracy. Stand up to those who spout such nonsense. We need to educate are friends and families that “the rich” is a derogatory word for “the productive”.

The left is always whining that people are questioning their patriotism. They say flag pins aren’t true patriotism. That’s for simpletons. So let’s start of list of what the left uses as criteria for patriotism.

  1. Joe Biden says paying taxes is patriotic (LINK)
  2. Michael Moore says waiting for health care is patriotic (LINK)
  3. Hilary Clinton shrieks dissent is patriotic (until the President is a Democrat) (LINK)
  4. Michelle Obama wasn’t proud of her country until her husband was nominated for the office of the presidency (LINK)

I’m sure there are many more. Send them to me so I can make a list of what the left thinks is patriotic, because apparently, I have got it all wrong.

Obama traveled to Ohio to tout his job program. He talked of a bridge that connects Ohio to Kentucky. Not coincidentally, the bridge connects the home states of John Boehner (the top Republican in the House) and Mitch McConnell (the top Republican in the Senate). Brilliant political theater you say?

No. It’s a political blunder from the boy genius.

Work on the bridge can’t happen until 2015. It is being held up by environmental studies…studies that will cost $18 million.

The people who drive over the bridge I’m sure are comforted by the fact the environment takes priority over their safety and  we can give the out-of-work bridge builders (if there are any) unemployment checks for another 4 years. The funny thing is, I wouldn’t even know about this folly if the President didn’t go out of his way to be witty.

When Barack Obama was running for President back in 2008, he was asked in a debate about the capital gains tax. He wanted to raise. When it was pointed out that raising the tax does not raise tax revenue, he did not disagree. He said it was a matter of “fairness”.

That didn’t make sense.  Even a liberal doesn’t think the tax code is there to spread “fairness”. So why would the President be for raising the tax rate and not tax revenue. You have to think it through to answer the question.

Entrepreneurs take a risk when they start a company. Investors take risks when they invest in companies. Unless you a fat-cat bank with ties to the government, the system is set up so that you own your loses and share your gains. If you lose…well that’s too bad. If you gain, the government is there to take their share in the form of capital gains or income tax. Raising the rate has the effect of reducing investment in business.

So why would the President who is focused like a laser on jobs push such a policy?

You have to consider what happens to the money that would have been invested in business. It won’t sit idle. Investors look for other investment vehicles. A lot of that money that would have been invested in business will now end up going to tax-free bonds. Those tax-free bonds are issued by local and state governments.

So who wins: Big government, public employee unions and business that work with the government (and usually subject to prevailing wage laws…and therefore unionized).

This is exactly what Barack Obama wants. So raising the capital gains tax is not about fairness and it’s not about tax revenues. It’s all about big government and union jobs.

I have to give the President a big thumbs up. He found a way to get a racist organization to shut up.

How would you define “a racist organization”?  I would say that a racist organization is one that makes decision based on race. If you agree, then you must also agree that the Congressional Black Caucus is a racist organization. Here is what their leader has said.

If [former President] Bill Clinton had been in the White House and had failed to address this problem, we probably would be marching on the White House (link)

What’s the difference between Bill Clinton and Barack Obama? That is obviously a rhetorical question.

This type of racism is only allowed for certain groups, and the groups that are allowed to create such racist organization seem to be perpetually outraged…until now. Way to go Mr. President!

Solyndra went bankrupt after receiving a loan from the Obama Administration and according to the AP, this is there defense

Administration officials defended the loan restructuring, saying that without an infusion of cash earlier this year, solar panel maker Solyndra Inc. would likely have faced immediate bankruptcy, putting more than 1,000 people out of work. (link)

So we spent half a billion dollars to keep about 1000 people working for less than a year. That is $500,000 per person.

We used to decry tax and spend liberals. President Obama is not one of those. He is a spend and tax liberal. First he spent money propping up his friends and union buddies. Now he has a plan to trick us into a tax increase.

His latest policy prescription for the struggling U.S. economy is a temporary tax break in return for a permanent tax increase. The tax break comes before the election of 2012. The increase will last until this country can discover some common sense.

So he knows he needs to lower taxes to get elected, but his ideology want to increase taxes. Hmm…it’s kind of like he wants to go against the electorate. It’s kind of like

Quantitative Easing: It sounds so technical, but it is quite easy to understand. What it means is devaluing the currency. Your dollar aint what it use to be.

For those of use who have a job, wages are stagnate (unless you are in a public union). This would be OK if inflation was stagnate too, but it is not. As I have suspected for a long time, we are heading toward a period of inflation. It took longer to start then I expected. This is because the economy was weaker than I thought. The Consumer Price Index was up 0.4% in August after rising at 0.5% in July.  This trend extended over twelve months means that inflation now stands at 5.4%.

As with every economic circumstance…some will win…and some will lose.

Inflation will help the government pay off its debt, but it will come at the expense of those who have saved.  If you have racked up $10,000 in credit card debt, don’t worry. Inflation will make it easier to pay off $10,000 in the future.

Debasing the dollar has the effect of hurting those who have produced and saved for the future. It rewards those who have lived beyond their means. It is a destructive policy that must be curbed before it gets unsustainable (a word that is applicable far too often these days).

Liberals destroy the language. As George Will writes:

Having damaged liberalism’s reputation, they call themselves progressives. Having made the federal government’s pretensions absurd, they have resurrected the supposed synonym “federal family.” Having made federal spending suspect, they advocate “investments” — for “job creation,” a euphemism for stimulus, another word they have made toxic…link

The same people tell us that some words are toxic and can’t be used. What am I suppose to call people of African descent. The name keeps changing…and does it make sense to call a black European and African American.

We can’t call be retarded. They are mentally handicapped…until that becomes common place and needs changing. The number of rhetorical back flips we make for liberal sensitivities is endless and growing.

The problem is that liberal ideas are unpopular. Stop ruining our language because your head is filled with nonsense.

The typical Keynesian argument goes like this: If you give poor people money, they will spend it. This money will then be spent again and again.  This pattern is called the multiplier. Liberals use this argument to justify hand-outs.

What are they missing.

In order for government to give a hand-out, the money most come from somewhere. That inflow usually happens in one of two ways. It is either forcibly extracted from the productive in the form of taxes…or it is forcibly extracted from the young in the form of debt.

Keynesians argue that the rich don’t spend their money. They save it or invest it. I say, “That’s good”. When they invest it, they are putting their money toward wealth creation not consumption and that is exactly what this country needs. If they save it…their money gets invested by someone else…and their money is being put toward wealth creation instead of consumption and that is exactly what this country needs.

Is there a multiplier when you spur investment. Sure there is. People take that investment money and spend it.

So one philosophy things that spending money is the solution and one philosophy thinks that creating wealth is the solution. Put me in the second camp.

Oh…and if you think I’m misleading you about how liberals think…check out Nancy Pelosi.

Scooter Libby was convicted of perjury because he didn’t remember an inconsequential discussion about a nobody, Joe Wilson. For his crime, he was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, fined a quarter of million dollars, with two years of supervised release and 400 hours of community service.

Now we have a White House that under fire and they would be wise to remember the Ghost of Scooter Libby. (OK…Scooter is still alive…but his political career is dead)

People in the White House pushed a half billion dollar loan to Solyndra, a failing solar power company. The White House rushed the Office of Budget and Management (OMB) in order to promote their green jobs agenda. When the company finally went belly up, people started to look closer at the relationship between the White House and the company. The White House has been in cover-up mode ever since.

Hearings begin tomorrow to discover the true extend of the White House efforts to push the bad loan. I would suggest they be very careful, be consistent and tell the truth. It was the Democrats that made working in Washington dangerous and it is the Democrats that could now pay a price for the precedent the set.

When the debt ceiling is a crisis….Barack Obama proposes taxing the rich

When jobs are the problem…Barack Obama proposes taxing the rich

When talking about fairness (or social justice)….Barack Obama proposes taxing the rich.

Is there anything that taxing the rich won’t solve?

These scenarios are all theoretical and don’t take into account the ingenuity and resourcefulness of average American, but I suspect far too much of it will be accurate.

The first thing they will notice is there is no power. Another damn power outage, they will grumble — but then again, there has been no storm. Confused, some will try to call for information, but the phones will be down. The TV, the radio — nothing, no reception.

The panic will come when cars won’t start.

The traffic lights will be out, too. It will get much worse. Most will not survive to see life get back to normal in America.

Thousands will be stranded on subways, and over a million passengers who fly daily across the continent will be stuck at airports with flights canceled. Those already in the air will meet a deadly fate as planes plunge from the sky, their electronics fried.

Within the next few days, water supplies will run out: water-pumping stations will grind to a halt and electric pumps for water purification will also stop. Remaining water supplies will soon become contaminated.

Next is the food supply. Without power, food plants can no longer operate, and without transportation, food inventories in warehouses rot. Many cities will run out of food in just three days, others in just a bit longer.

This will be the result of an electromagnetic pulse attack over the atmosphere of the United States. In less than a billionth of a second, the electrical intensity on Earth becomes so hot that microchips fry, power lines overload, and the electrical grid collapses. Everything with microelectronics in it fails.

Within days, tens of millions of Americans will need to leave their homes looking for water and food. Within five to 10 days, due to water pollution and sanitation issues, many will fall ill — people across America will face starvation, disease, and death. In just one year after the attack, up to two-thirds of the American population will cease to exist.

Read the whole thing

Iran has been working for years on their nuclear ambitions and their ability to launch an EMP attack. So if you are in the Ron Paul camp, you can put your head back in the sand and hope it never happens. However, if you are like most Americans and you think the leaders in Iran are truly nuts, then read the article, prepare yourself and support government action to reduce the risk.

I am suggesting government intervention into the market, but I am not being hypocritical. Defense against our enemies is spelled out in the Constitution. Our electric grid needs to be protected.
