Sports are for kids.
Well…that’s the way it should be, but professional sports has turned into big business. Games are book-ended by tail gate parties and are often filled with drunk, obnoxious and often violent adults. Taking your kid to the game can exceed a hundred of dollars when you by a couple of tickets, pay to park, buy him a hot dog, a soda and some popcorn and then head home. And if you are a Rockefeller, you can get him baseball hat.
Good news though…baseball still is for kids in Williamsport. Even with the horrible weather all along the East Coast, the Little League World Series set an all time attendance record. OK…parents are nuts. Baseball parents are particularly nuts. They spend way too much on kids playing games…but still…it’s good to see a sports that puts kids first before tail-gates.

MSNBC is liberal. I don’t have a problem with it. They can try to build a business model by pandering to the left if they like. If they do it well…they will succeed financially. Of course, they have a lot of competition (ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN) for 30% of the people.
I can’t speak to their finances. I’m not that interested, but I can see that they ratings have tanked.
TVNewser gives the nightly ratings of the cable TV news. For years, MSNBC was 2nd behind Fox. Not any more.
Rachel Maddow is the #1 show on MSNBC. She is given the prime spot. I’m not saying it hasn’t happened, but I have never seen when she beat Bill O’Reilly. But Bill O’Reilly is not her competition lately. Piers Morgan at CNN is. Where she used to dream of being #1…now she if fighting to be #2.
Last week she lost the rating battle to Morgan on Tuesday and Friday. Could it be because of the hurricane? I don’t know. Maybe even liberals want to pass on the global warming theory as a storm heads their way.
More likely, it is depression setting in on the left. I remember when George Bush won the 2000 election. Liberals publicly proclaimed their depression. This is what happens when your life is ruled by emotion. Today, liberals are trending toward depression because even liberals as starting to see that Barack Obama has been a disaster...and his failure is hurting their quest for power.
Now that Irene has passed, I look back and take note of a few things.
The storm was not nearly as bad as predicted. This is typical. The media plays up these things because they make money from the scare. What was different was the government reaction. Leaders from both parties are too quick to evacuate after the Katrina (political) disaster. All the attacks on Bush are now causing us to close down commerce far too easily. I blame this on the left that used Katrina to score cheap political points. Those cheap points are now costing us.
The second lesson to be learned is that computer models have a long way to go. If the forecasters can’t tell us the strength of hurricanes that already exist, isn’t a bit of a stretch to pressume they can tell us the strength of hurricanes in 2020 or 2030? We have come a long way with computer models and I have no doubt that they have saved lives…but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Lastly…I prepared and I’m glad I did. I started putting 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water into the freezer earlier in the week. We lost power for nearly 24 hours and all the meat in the freezer stayed frozen. I see this hurricane as a test run for a bigger power disruption. I have learned that I need a different kind of power inverter to run my refrigerator from my Truck battery.

The Jerusalem Post wrote about Glenn Beck’s rally in Israel. Toward the end, was this.
Christian Zionists – like Jewish religious Zionists – are unmoved by the media’s intimidation because of their faith in God, and their reliance on scripture. Their faith provides them with a means of judging reality that is independent of the largely post-religious intellectual commissariat that runs the media and the cultural elite in the Western world. They don’t seek or care about receiving the accolades of the New York Times or other post-religious totems for their actions. And Beck’s message to Israelis is that we shouldn’t care either…read the whole thing
The left (fueled by the media) have this group think mentality. If anyone strays, they are condemned as loony and dangerous. It doesn’t matter if it is global warming or Palestine. This scary group think and unwillingness for individual to stand up and say “Hey…this isn’t right” is what led to the Holocaust.

When Rick Perry hit the scene, he boasted that Texas created more jobs than any other state in the nation. Obama and his followers claimed that job growth in Texas was not due yp policies implemented by the Perry administration, but rather from the federal stimulus money.
If Obama can take the credit for job growth in Texas, then he must take the blame for this:
Illinois Loses Most Jobs in the Nation
Illinois lost more jobs during the month of July than any other state in the nation, according to the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics report. After losing 7,200 jobs in June, Illinois lost an additional 24,900 non-farm payroll jobs in July. The report also said Illinois’s unemployment rate climbed to 9.5 percent. This marks the third consecutive month of increases in the unemployment rate…read more
Illinois isn’t just another one of the 50 states. It is a decidedly “blue” state that Barack Obama once represented. Unlike Texas, they recently raised taxes to make up for budget shortfalls.
They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. No…that is stupidity. You can give the man an Ivy League education, but that doesn’t make him smart. Some of the dumbest people I know are highly educated.
Rasmussen reports that President Obama has hit a new low with likely voters: -26%.
Gallup measures “Americans”, not likely voters, and they also have him a new low: -13%.
I guess the excuses and blame (GWB, bad luck, Tea Party) are wearing thin.
The President spent billions of dollars to create “green job”. Look around. How many people do you know who have lost their job in the last 2.5 years and how many of them now have a “green job”. If you answered more than zero…I would be surprised.
Does this makes sense to you? It sure doesn’t to me.
The media and liberals paint the tea party as hostage takers demanding that we don’t spend money, yet they never refer to unions with the same rhetoric when they stop work and demand money from themselves.
Teachers strike and put working parents in a bind. They basically demand a higher salary or they will throw your life into a dizzy. That’s OK for some, but God forbid someone petition their government to live within their means and apply the rule of law equally.
How can it be that people see things so differently?

Fact checkers stating opinion as fact?
Reason takes PolitiFact to task for suggesting that a high speed rail line proposed in Florida would actually not incur cost over-runs. Whether it will or it won’t is a matter of opinion, but I would say that if the government is involved, cost over-runs are almost a given. I can’t think of a single government project that came in under budget. Just look at the Cash for Caulkers boondoggle in Seattle.
The fact is that government is not penalized for cost over-runs. In fact, everyone involved gets paid more for dragging their feet. This leads to cost over-runs nearly every time. And that’s the fact Jack.

From The American Interest
Those who tout green jobs as the engine of America’s economic growth miss a fundamental point: there’s no substantive difference between green manufacturing and any other type. Manufacturers have been fleeing the high labor costs and regulation of the United States for cheaper labor in China for years — there’s no reason they won’t do the same simply because a product is “green.” While there is certainly a market for solar panels and other green products, that market follows the same economic rules as everything else. Green jobs are not a solution to America’s economic woes…read more
Rasmussen reports that less then 1 in 10 unaffiliated voters strongly approves of President Obama’s job performance.
It may seem strange, but buying cheap Chinese goods may be good for us. Why? Because spending less money are the garbage that comes out of that country leaves us more money for the more important (and more expensive) things in life.
The number one purchase made by Americans is their home. This purchase also works as a stable investment for later years. If we spend less money on the crap that accumulates in our garage, we can afford a much larger garage.
It may not seem like it, but most consumer spending does not go to China. In any given month, most of my outgoing money (after taxes) goes to pay off my mortgage, food and gas.
So don’t worry so much about buying American. Your biggest purchase was assembled right in your back yard…I mean front yard…well…smack dab in the middle between your front yard and your back yard.

Class warfare has exploded in England. The police are ineffective, so let this be a lesson. When your pursuit of happiness is threatened, gun rights are there for your protection. Defense of your rights is not always a battle against the government.

A case study in stupid is as stupid does.
Socrates taught that wisdom begins in the recognition of how little we know. Mr. Obama is perpetually intent on telling us how much he knows. Aristotle wrote that the type of intelligence most needed in politics is prudence, which in turn requires experience. Mr. Obama came to office with no experience. Plutarch warned that flattery “makes itself an obstacle and pestilence to great houses and great affairs.” Today’s White House, more so than any in memory, is stuffed with flatterers…read more
Back in 2010, Anthony Weiner had the balls to say Glenn Beck should be ashamed of himself. The reason was gold. Glenn Beck was pushing the idea the government is weakening the dollar and gold is a good hedge against inflation.
I don’t know if Anthony Weiner is ashamed of himself now. He should be ashamed of himself for many things, but I doubt such an arrogant lefty has the capacity to feel shame.
Today gold surpassed $1700 per ounce. Back in May of 2010 when Anthony Weiner was attacking Glenn Beck and his advertisers (probably because they were bad mouthing Democrats). Gold was about $1200 per ounce. For the mathematically challenged…that is a 41.7% rise in less 18 months.
Now go back further to another Beck prediction….Back in 2007, Glenn Beck warned of a housing crisis. I listened. By the end of 2007 I had transferred a significant portion of my investment portfolio into cash. This move saved me thousands of dollars.
The left keep portraying Glenn Beck as crazy. Go ahead and ignore him if you want, but I will continue to check in periodically. He is entertaining and he sees a lot more than the normal punditry.
