Richard Blumenthal is running for the Senate as Democrat in Connecticut. I first saw Richard Blumenthal on FoxNews explaining his position during the whole bonus scandal (created by Democrats). He is suppose to be a good lawyer, and that may be true…because common sense is a rare commodity in our courts these days. He came across as a glory seeking media hound trying to capitalize on public outrage. He came across as a lawyer who doesn’t care about the law.
I didn’t like him from the start, and now I have more reason to dislike him.
From the New York Times:
He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records.
It’s not the avoiding the Vietnam War that I find offensive.
But what is striking about Mr. Blumenthal’s record is the contrast between the many steps he took that allowed him to avoid Vietnam, and the misleading way he often speaks about that period of his life now, especially when he is speaking at veterans’ ceremonies or other patriotic events.
Sometimes his remarks have been plainly untrue, as in his speech to the group in Norwalk. At other times, he has used more ambiguous language, but the impression left on audiences can be similar.
In an interview on Monday, the attorney general said that he had misspoken about his service during the Norwalk event and might have misspoken on other occasions. “My intention has always been to be completely clear and accurate and straightforward, out of respect to the veterans who served in Vietnam,” he said.
And it wasn’t a one time thing. He has repeated his inaccurate remarks and misleading rhetoric. He is not careless with his words. He is a lawyer and he knows how to use language.
lawyer + liar + liberal + draft dodger = loser
(I couldn’t think of a synonym for draf dodger that begins with “L”)
Connecticut has not made good choices in the past. I remember Lowell Weicker. Hell, I voted for that liar. He ran on “no income tax” and one of the first thing he did is sign into law the income tax. I moved out soon after. I also started following politics more closely and realized I was a true conservative. No more moderation for me. No more independents. No more RINOs (Republican In Name Only).
I don’t want moderation or pragmatism. I want freedom from the whims of power hungry liars like Richard Blumenthal and Lowell Weicker.
