2010 March

The newest outrage is directed at the GOP (what a surprise) and wasteful spending by a GOP donor at a strip club. Hey, I donate to the party and that doesn’t make me happy. But then again, I don’t have to give to the party. It is my choice.

What really get under my craw is taxes that ends up going for wasteful spending.  Washington is wasting hundreds of billions of dollars and I have no say. I pay or men with guns show up and escort me to jail.

Which is more outrageous? And those on the left. Spare me the outrage. Strip clubs and sex don’t outrage you. Your only making political hay, painting a whole party out to be hypocrites because of the actions of one guy. I thought wise Americans were against such generalizations.

A man has been charged in Philadelphia federal court with threatening to murder a U.S. Congressman (link). He posted an anti-Semitic rant on YouTube. The man was an Obama Supporter , the Congressman was Eric Cantor, a Republican and the minority group (Jews) are not protected like other minorities by those currently holding power.

Now please move along, and remember it is the Tea Party Protesters who are angry and radical.

President Obama used the Easter vacation as an opportunity to make 15 appointments, skipping the Senate approval process. Unlike many in the GOP, I don’t believe the recess appointments are the problem. The president should be able to appoint those that he wants as long as they are competent and ethical. Radical is not ground for dismissing a Presidential appointment. If the label “radical” was the standard, then conservatives would never get a chance to govern since so many of today’s enlightened think that free market capitalism is “radical”.

The problem is that Obama has once again hand picked a bunch of radicals. One such appointment is Craig Becker. Mr. Becker was a lawyer for SEIU. His views on union elections are quite public and quite radical. The WSJ ends their review this way:

Mr. Becker has a confirmation hearing coming up, and Senators should ask him to explain why someone who wants to rig the rules to favor unionization should sit on a panel that is supposed to enforce fairness in union elections.

Of course, Mr. Becker won’t have to answer those questions now. We will just assume that our president has no interest in enforcing fairness in union elections.

Obama ran as a pragmatist and a centrist. What is apparent to anyone paying attention is that he is a radical liberal. He still talks nice, but his speeches are meaningless. His actions that speak volumes.

Does CO2 create warming or does warming create CO2?

There is little doubt that CO2 has been increasing in the atmosphere. There is also a “consensus” that we have had a slight warming. When the warming started, how much have we warmed and what is the cause is still highly contentions.

Twenty years of field studies reveal that as the Earth has gotten warmer, plants and microbes in the soil have given off more carbon dioxide. So-called soil respiration has increased about one-tenth of 1 percent per year since 1989, according to an analysis of past studies in today’s issue of Nature.

The scientists also calculated the total amount of carbon dioxide flowing from soils, which is about 10-15 percent higher than previous measurements. That number — about 98 petagrams of carbon a year (or 98 billion metric tons) — will help scientists build a better overall model of how carbon in its many forms cycles throughout the Earth. Understanding soil respiration is central to understanding how the global carbon cycle affects climate.

The global warming proponents will tell you that any warming will lead to more CO2 released from the soil creating a positive feedback. In this sense, positive is bad. It’s like that horrible screech year hear when a microphone picks up the feedback from the speaker.

The deniers will tell you that this is evidence that man is not the cause. The planet has been warming slowly since the Little Ice Age and the extra CO2 comes from burning fossil fuels, the soil and oceans. It’s no big deal. It is just natural cycles.

I don’t know. What I do know is:

  1. The debate is not over
  2. The Progressives are using fear for a political power grab
  3. When politician use science to push policy, science is hurt

Always keep looking for answers…and ignore those in Washington who went to law school and now preach to us about science.

The left is all wee-weed up over threats as if over the top political rhetoric is new. Take a stroll down memory lane from the Bush Era.

What to make of all this? It really is quite simple. They have no principal or values other than the ends justifies the means.

I have been warning that once the government is paying for health care, liberals will come up with all kinds of new taxes for behavior modification. They will use “saving money” as the excuse to protect you from yourself.

Well, it didn’t take long.

Indoor tanning salons will charge customers a 10 percent tax beginning today in just one of the changes Americans will see as a result of the U.S. health-care overhaul signed into law by President Barack Obama.

Busy-bodies have already used the government to tax or ban many products including cigarettes and transfat. They are attempting to outlaw salt in the New York City restaurants and Philly is tax soda to reduce consumption.

We are more than on a slippery slope. We are barreling down a water slide.

Elephant Owner’s Advertisment

Update: How many stickin’ times did Obama promise us that if we made under $250,000, we wasn’t going to raise our taxes? Did you believe him? Do you believe anything he says?

Update II: Instapundit points out that this is a racist tax.

Americans believe in individuals. We don’t believe it is fair to assume a person takes on the qualities of any group. This group mentality is usually referred to as racism or sexism. It is taboo in today’s society…unless of course you are protesting against a government that taking your liberties. If one tea partier does something out-of-bounds, it is used to tarnish all tea partiers. It is akin to assuming all Muslims are terrorist because some are terrorists. Yet that is exactly what the Democrats have been doing for a year.

Congressional Black Caucus members claim that racial slurs were shouted at them while they marched through a tea party. Is there any proof? No, just their word. Except, watch this video. You will see the Congressmen are being followed by someone who is video taping their march.

It’s like they were expecting something and they wanted it recorded. If there was a racial slur, they should have the proof. Where is it?

It is Black Congressmen who are generalizing about people. The only racist group in the video is the Congressional Black Caucus.

America is a great country. I feel blessed to live here at this time, but we must not take our position for granted. Liberty and freedom were won on the battlefield by brave men who risked everything. They were striving to make a new world in a unique time and place. It was a lightening strike. It was a fleeting opportunity that men of character were able to seize, but our freedoms and liberty are not guaranteed forever.

John Derbyshire rights about our demise at The Corner:

It’ll be over soon. We’ll be down in the cold, lightless depths of imperial despotism — in which, after all, the great majority of human beings, throughout history, have always lived. It’s the natural way: liberty is an unstable temporary aberration. I once tried to compute the sheer quantity, in man-years, of lives lived under the despotic order — Egyptians and Assyrians, Persians and Chinese, Romans and post-Alexander Greeks, Incas and Aztecs, Umayyads and Abbasids, Ottomans and Zulus, Tsars and General Secretaries… as against humans in liberty, ruled by common consent. It came out at around a hundred to one.

It’s not over. Those of us who cherish freedom still have some fight left in us. We need to stand tall so our children and grandchildren can enjoy the freedom that we have. Do not quit. Never stop fighting against those that want to rule your life.

Stop the progressives before we to slip into darkness. Nothing is more important.

Rasmussen poll numbers today show that Obama has received a bounce in his approval rating. People to his left have fallen back in love. The rest of us aren’t so happy.

As for those not affiliated with either major party, 23% Strongly Approve and 45% Strongly Disapprove.

Healthcare was passed against the people’s will. Only most liberal amongst us are happy about are new bill. We are still a center-right county that believes in individuals rights, freedom and opportunity. We are not Europeans looking to be taken care of.

Voters reacted after Hillary Care failed. I expect the reaction to actually passing the next step toward socialized medicine to be even stronger. I believe Republicans will take back the House this year and bring the Senate back to a one or two vote margin.

The expanse of government has led to moral degradation.

They are considering legalizing marijuana in New York to close the budget gap. Pennsylvania is gambling that gaming will pay the bills.

You can argue that these things should be legal, but it makes no sense that gambling or smoking should be legal only to raise money. Would murder be OK if you purchased a government license of $1 million dollars? How much do you need to pay the government to rape?

Making these “vises” legal for financial reasons totally undermines making them illegal in the first place. So either gambling and smoking pot is OK or it’s not…and if it is OK, then why should the government benefit from you partaking in these activities?

I think I just hear the sound of the debt clock accelerating. I’m sure the CBO didn’t add this to their cost analysis even though the states said they would file lawsuits.

Florida says several states to file healthcare lawsuit

On behalf of the State of Florida and of the Attorneys General from South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Pennsylvania, Washington, North Dakota, South Dakota and Alabama if the President signs this bill into law, we will file a lawsuit to protect the rights and the interests of American citizens.

Did the Barack the Constitutional Professor think he could thumb his nose at the Constitution and the rest of us would go away quietly?

I started counting bumper stickers last month. I wanted to see how many people had pro-Obama stickers AND patriotic stickers (either the American flag or a “Support the Troops” sticker). Here’s the count.

29: Patriotic Stickers

14: Obama Supporter – No patriotic stickers

1: Obama support and patriotic stickers

I am being generous with the last one. I didn’t actually see the Obama supporter with the patriotic sticker. I was just told by a friend that he saw one.

I have been surprised by how few political stickers I have seen over the last month. It will be curious to see how this changes as the primaries approach.

A battle was lost last night, but the war goes on.

Economic progress comes from change, and change comes from small business run by risk taking entrepreneurs. Today’s progressives are big supporters of big labor and big business.

Barack Obama says he is a Progressive. His first term has been all about supporting unions and saving companies that have failed. What he has done is used the power of the government to bolster the road blocks for new ideas.

What is funny (in a depressing kind of way) is that Obama ran on hope and change, but the only change he has supported is the change to bigger government. His bailout happy administration is all for keeping big banks and big manufacturing running, even at a loss, so that the union jobs they support remain in tact.

Liberals claim that health care is a right…along with a good paying job, a place to live, clothes and food. I believe this is fundamentally wrong. I believe rights are human rights that should not be taken by others.

I posed the question to my wife tonight, I don’t know the answer. Do liberals pervert the word “right” on purpose to make what the founders said meaningless or do they truly understand the word differently.

I believe liberals are consciously perverting the word. They do it all the time. Words are meaningless to them. They twist what words mean. At one time, George Washington and John Adams were considered liberals before the label was hijacked by progressives (who needed a new label after Hitler and Mussolini screwed things up). Now Washington and Adams would be labeled right wing nut jobs and put on the terrorist watch list. They have even perverted history in order to make these wig wearing, nut jobs look bad.

Words mean nothing to liberals. Rules mean nothing to liberals. You see it in Washington right now. Democrats are changing the rules at the last minute. They do the same thing every election cycle.

To a liberal, traditions aren’t important. History is not important. Words aren’t important. Rules aren’t important. Laws aren’t important. They are not ruled by principals, morals or ethics. They are ruled by men. The quest for power over others is their goal. The method of achieving that goal is not important.

Look at the health care debate. I rest my case.
