Today is not the day to speak badly of Ted Kennedy, but I will say this. I look forward to the day that we no longer have to hear about the Kennedy’s from our partisan journalist. A new batch of liberal scribes will soon come of age without a Kennedy to idolize. Maybe then we can look back at the legacy of Ted, Bobby and Jack with honesty, respect and curiosity.
It was revealed yesterday that Charlie Rangel, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, has disclosed more the $500,000 in previously unreported assets. This is the guy leading the committee in the House of Representatives that writes the tax laws. This is the same Charlie Rangel that has been embroiled in a tax and ethics controversy for over a year.
Why would he make these disclosures now?
Stanley M. Brand, a prominent Democratic ethics lawyer and former House counsel who is not working for Rangel, said voluntarily amending the disclosure could be helpful to Rangel in legal and ethical arenas.
“Generally, amending the forms would show an intent to fully disclose and make amends for any oversight,” Brand said. “It tends to negatize your criminal intent if you’re amending this thing on your own.”
It’s too late, Charlie. You have already committed the crimes. Now it is time to do some time. You are not above the law. Don’t worry though. Even if you are in jail, your district will probably blame it all on racism and re-elect you.
Barack Obama says that government has a, “core moral and ethical obligation that we look out for one another … that I am my brother’s keeper, my sister’s keeper”
As Jonah Goldberg points out, a keeper is a term used for prison guards and zoo keepers.
I am no expert on the Bible, but I can use Wikipedia.
Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”
“I know not,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
That is a far cry from a moral or ethical obligation to be your brother’s keeper.
Upon signing the Social Security Act in 1935, Franklin Roosevelt claimed:
This law represents a cornerstone in a structure which is being built but is by no means completed–a structure intended to lessen the force of possible future depressions, to act as a protection to future administrations of the Government against the necessity of going deeply into debt to furnish relief to the needy… (LINK)
Democrats from 74 years ago could not fathom to irresponsibility of liberal generations to come.
From Reuters:
A major fund-raiser for Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and other Democrats was charged by federal prosecutors in New York in connection with a scheme to defraud Citigroup Inc (C.N). Hassan Nemazee, 59, was accused of one count of bank fraud for allegedly seeking a fraudulent $74 million loan from Citigroup’s banking unit, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara and the Federal Bureau of Investigation said on Tuesday.
Nemazee was a national finance chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, and a supporter of Sen. John Kerry’s run for the White House in 2004. He typically donates more than $100,000 annually to Democratic political candidates, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Sen. Charles Schumer, and sits on the board of the Iranian American Political Action Committee.
Nemazee is listed as having been among the top “bundlers” of contributions to Obama’s presidential campaign, according to OpenSecrets.org, a website maintained by a nonpartisan research group, the Center for Responsive Politics.
Will this get the air play that Jack Abramoff scandal got? Don’t bet on it.
The White House says that we should not expect any news while the President is on vacation…and then we hear that the former head of the AFLCIO was named to head the New York Federal Reserve (LINK). Maybe to the radical White House, nominating a labor leader to oversee a quasi-governmental banking authority is not news…but to those who are paying attention…it is.
And then it got worse.
Obama’s economic adviser Christina Romer is now prediciting that unemployment for 2009 will average 9.3% and it will increase to 9.8% for 2010. Isn’t this the same economic adviser who defended the rosy economic predictions by the White House back in Febuary. She claimed:
She (Christina Romer) also suggested that many private forecasters may not be adequately taking account of the size of the government support that has been put forward, including the $787 billion economic stimulus bill, the $700 billion financial rescue package which the new budget suggests may be doubled if necessary and the administration’s mortgage mitigation effort.
How’s that economic stimulus working out? I guess it wasn’t the private forecasters that were misjudging the “government support”.
And then it got even worse.
The Justice department is now going to reopen a criminal investigation into the interrogation techniques used by the CIA. I guess they are done taking the fight to Al Queda and it is now time to take the fight to Americans who protected America against a savage enemy.
And the kicker.
Michael Jackson’s death is ruled a homicide. OK…that one has nothing to do with the President…or maybe that’s what they want you to think.
OpenSecrets.org has a list of the top campaign contributions by organization from 1989 to 2008
Only 3 of the top 20 organization gave to Republicans. and 2 of the 3 are listed as “Leans Republican”. The Republican donors are the AMA, the National Auto Dealers and Altria Group (tobacco). These are three organization that are being attacked by Democrats.
On the flip side, there are 14 organization that gave to Democrats with only one of those being defined as a “leaner”. Their contributors are unions, lawyers and teachers…groups that get direct benefits from government meddling.
Of the top 25, 5 organizations gave exclusively to Democrats. Only one organization in the top 100 gave exclusively to Republicans (Amway). 4 of the 5 organizations that exclusively gave to Democrats where unions. The 5th was EMILY’s List, a group that supposedly gives money to woman running for Congress. Republican women need not apply.
Summing up the list, $1.6 billion was given by the top 100 organization and Democrats received 60% of it.
Do you really think the Democrats are serious about limiting the influence from lobbyists? Where’s the change?
Vladimir Lenin called reporters and early 20th century progressives “useful idots of the West”.
Too bad useful idiots didn’t die with Soviet communism. Today, we have those who follow the marching without once considering the source.
Michelle Malkin exposes the well-paid union leaders behind the boycott of Whole Foods. Such is our Orwellian world. Community organizers and union leaders can raise a mob whenever they want because our world is filled with useful idiots. Yet regular people outraged by a two trillion dollar budget deficit “astroturf” by the likes of Nancy Pelosi.
Our public schools have failed us.
From National Review:
Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, liberal Democrats have to accuse their opponents of racism. Indeed, somewhat to their credit, fighting racism — alas, even where it doesn’t exist — is one of the reasons they became liberal Democrats in the first place.
Governor Paterson of New York got his position because the previous governor got caught dealing with a prostitute. Now he claims he is being attacked for racial reasons:
Part of what I feel is that one very successful minority is permissible, but when you see too many success stories, then some people get nervous
I guess he is implying that he is a success story. No, governor. We are not afraid of your success. We are afraid the power we have entrusted into the government has been handed to incompetent buffoons.
New York state has nearly a $5 trillion deficit and the governor has shown little leadership in trying to deal with this crisis. Instead of working the problem, he plays the race card. What a lazy and dishonest response.
Few are afraid of a black man’s success. We are afraid of a failure of leadership. Show me a governor who can reduce a state budget without reducing critical services and I don’t care if he is black, white or green.
Silver-tongued Barack Obama told a mob* of left wing activist:
“There is something about August going into September where everybody in Washington gets all wee weed up!”
At least I knew what “strategery” meant. What the hell does “wee wee’d” mean?
*According to the left, a mob is any group of 5 or more people who don’t agree with your point of view
Over at The Corner, Peter Wehner has the Gallup numbers on post-Truman August approval ratings for first term Presidents.
Only two presidents had their approval ratings drop by more than 10% at this point…Clinton and Obama. Both are Democrats, both “enjoyed” a Democratically a controlled Congress, and both persued an agenda of socializing medicine.
From the Weekly Standard…
CNN’s Larry King showed the above video of Barney Frank laying the smack down on a woman at a townhall meeting who compared Obama to Hitler. CNN left out the fact that this woman is a Lyndon LaRouche Democrat.
Barack Obama is constantly in campaign mode. He never gets specific. He talks in generalities. Such is the case with health care reform…which is now health insurance reform…which once had a public option…until it didn’t.
The President has discovered that his health reform plans are acceptable to the American people until he gives details. Just like “change”, Americans look forward to “reform”. What they really want is “improvement”. We just aren’t buying the changes proposed by Congressional liberals are improvements to our current system.
The cure for the President’s failing approval rating is to remain in campaign mode. He must stay amorphous. He will change with the winds until Congress gets back into session. He will then try again to sneak something through without time for a public discussion. As they say, arguing against Barack Obama is like pinning jello to the wall. How can you create a narrative against a President who changes on a weekly (and sometimes daily) basis?
Make no mistake about it. This President believes a single payer health care system (socialized medicine) is the best final outcome. Every move he makes has that end goal in mind.
