Nancy Pelosi claims she is non-partisan (LINK)
I didn’t come here to be partisan. I didn’t come here to be bipartisan. I came here, as did my colleagues, to be nonpartisan, to work for the American people, to do what is in their interest.
Read through the pages of this blog. I don’t write these posts to further the Republican party. I write about issues that I think are important to the American people…the little people like me.
The Elephant Owner is not partisan. I’m not bipartisan. I’m nonpartisan too…Just like good ole Nancy.

Congress on January 31st, 2009
According to Jake Tapper at ABC, Tom Daschle is being questioned about a tax issue (LINK). He was “lent” a car a drive by a wealthy Democrat. If the guy who is to be the head of the IRS can blatantly cheat on his taxes and get away with it, there isn’t much chance that the Senate (where Tom Daschle has many friends) is going to find his transgression any more than a footnote.
The stage was set when Tim Geitner was approved with little resistance. From now on, you can bet that paying your taxes is optional to the politically connected.

Common Sense on January 31st, 2009
Thomas Sowell has a great line about investing in infrastructure as an emergency measure
Out of $355 billion newly appropriated, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that only $26 billion will be spent this fiscal year and only $110 billion by the end of 2010.
Using long, drawn-out processes to put money into circulation to meet an emergency is like mailing a letter to the fire department to tell them that your house is on fire. (LINK)
The Mayor of Hartford, CT arrested on bribery charges(LINK). You won’t find that he is a Democrat in this article. A couple of days ago, the Courant did show post photo of the mayor wearing an Obama pin cheering for Democrats on election night. (LINK)
Two judges in Luzerne County, PA have agreed to a plea deal that will send them to jail. They have been accused of receiving millions of dollars in kick backs. (LINK) Good luck finding their party affiliation from the Philadelphia Inquirer. It’s not mentioned. I had to Google the judges names to find that they are Democrats(Here and Here).
One week…that’s all I ask for. I would like one week were I don’t hear another story of corruption in the Democratic party.
The Democrats have argued that the public airwaves are limited and therefore part of the public domain. They have used this argument to regulate radio and TV. Before Ronald Reagen, they used it to control political discourse. It was called the Fairness Doctrine.
The effect of the Fairness Doctrine were dramatic. A station could be sued if it didn’t represent both sides of a story. Defining what the “sides” are can be difficult and with a sue happy public that is easily offended. The end result was radio and TV had no political discourse of any substance. If someone felt their side was not represented, the station could be sued. Just fighting these law suits could bankrupt a struggling business.
A whole new world was created when the Fairness Doctrine was removed from the landscape. It enabled the success of Rush Limbaugh who single handily revived AM radio. Since that time, many Conservatives have followed up on the success of Rush. Rush is currently be attacked by Democrats for hoping that Barrack Obama fails. Apparently, hoping a Democrat fails is analogous to hoping the country fails. This criticism is coming from the same crowd that told us they support our troops, but not the mission.

free speech on January 28th, 2009
So . . . we’re going to have a tax cheat in charge of the IRS, a man instrumental in the pardoning of terrorists as top terrorism watchdog, and a woman whose husband gets tens of millions from foreign governments in charge of implementing foreign policy.
Press reaction: Move along . . . nothing to see here.

Liberal Bias on January 28th, 2009
Rep. Rosco Bartlett was born in 1926. He was 6 years old when FDR was elected. Unfortunately for him and the country, the depression lasted long enough for him to remember it. He spoke to President Obama today to remind him that the big government programs didn’t work during the Great Depression. He ended with this line.
Mr. President, I think it’s more than a little bit selfish to try to solve our economic problems which we created by burdening future generations yet to be born
I couldn’t agree more.
Maybe the wheels can fall off of this baby before it gets any Obama-momentum (hat tip to Watts Up With That)
James Hansen’s Former NASA Supervisor Declares Himself a Skeptic
Washington DC: NASA warming scientist James Hansen, one of former Vice-President Al Gore’s closest allies in the promotion of man-made global warming fears, is being publicly rebuked by his former supervisor at NASA…Retired senior NASA atmospheric scientist, Dr. John S. Theon, the former supervisor of James Hansen, NASA’s vocal man-made global warming fear soothsayer, has now publicly declared himself a skeptic and declared that Hansen “embarrassed NASA†with his alarming climate claims and said Hansen was “was never muzzled.†Theon joins the rapidly growing ranks of international scientists abandoning the promotion of man-made global warming fears.
Read the whole thing here
Dr. Theon discusses how the models are useless. The people who create them hide there methods. This makes it impossible for other scientist to verify their work and is completely at odds with the way science works in the 21st century.
Remember this then next time you hear a Democrat say that they believe in science while the Republicans want to ignore it. Democrats use science for a means to an end. Science, facts and logic are rarely used properly by Democrats. When challenged, they are always falling back on “it’s for the children” and “I’m fighting for the little guy” rhetoric.
The Democrats may be all smiles in Washington. Around the country, they are fighting scandal after scandal.
The latest one comes out of Boston where the House Speaker is stepping down under an ethical cloud.
After all the complaining they did about the Republican scandals, you would think the Democrats could go a week without a new scandal.
You wanted change…you got it. We went from minor scandals to a constant drum beat of serious charges against sitting Democrats. Would it be too much to ask if we could go a whole week without learning about another Democrat who is in office but should be in jail.

corruption on January 28th, 2009
I have used the “Culture of Corruption” to describe the rampant corruption brought on by Democratic majorities. Corruption that has been far worse than anything the Republicans ever did. The problem with using this phrase is that it has been tied to Republicans. When you use it, it reminds people that Republicans were corrupt too.
Although trolling for gays in the bathrooms isn’t in the same league as selling a Senate seat vacated by the newly elected President, it still brings back painful memories. (I can’t take wide stance at the urinal anymore with shaking my head in disgust).
If you have any great tag lines, please post them in the comment section.
Here are some keywords that could be used negatively to describe corrupt liberals:
class, anointed, snob, arrogant, unethical, criminal, syndicate, mob, gang, kings, queens, dictator
Timothy Geitner has successfully skated away from tax evasion. Scooter Libby was convicted because he messed up a time line in a non-crime. As in George Orwell Animal Farm,
All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.

Common Sense on January 27th, 2009
A woman asks her husband if they can afford to buy a $800 pair of shoes. “No way are you getting those shoes” is the reply. She then says she has found a similar pair on sale for $200. He agrees knowing that the $200 price is 25% of the pair she originally wanted.
The wife is emotionally satisfied that she has new shoes, and the husband is dumb and happy…dumb because she didn’t need the shoes in the first place.
How are the shoes in this story any different than the Democrat’s stimulus package with the taxpayers playing the part of the dumb husband. Republicans will complain about the provision for contraceptives and family planning. They might even get the billion for ACORN stripped from the bill. When the bill comes out, the Republicans will say how much they have done for the taxpayers, the Obama Administration will be touting how they came to a bipartisan consensus and the taxpayers will be happy our government didn’t waste money on condoms when they purchased a billion pair of unneeded shoes.
The Culture Of Corruption continues in Washington. The Senate approved the nomination of a known tax evader, Tim Geitner. If this is the only person qualified to run the Treasury Department, then we need to get rid of the Treasury Department.
Tim Geitner’s lame excuse reminds me of an old Steve Martin routine. He says there are two words that will get you out of anything…”I forgot” . If that doesn’t work…there are three more…”Well, EXSCUSE MEEEEEEEE!”
Click Here to see how your senator voted.
My Senators split. Bob Casey has proven himself to be a good obedient little Democrat. He ran as a centrist but has towed the party line since day one.
