2008 December

The Philadelphia Inquirer has a story (LINK) on the front page this moring that blames Act 201 for the deaths of two children. The headline reads, “Case highlights growing risks of utility cutoffs”. The sub heading says, “Fire killed tots whose parents did not pay bill. Critics blame Act 201.”

Why is this liberal bia? Because the put one side of the story in the headline. Most people won’t read beyond the headline. Further down in the story is the description of what the authorities report:

Dauphin County authorities blame the parents for the fire. Ryan and Debbie Donachy were charged with criminal homicide, endangering the welfare of a child, and posession of drug paraphernalia.

The recent presidential election shows what headline can do. It seems that headline is all that many Obama supporters ever see LINK. Someone who only reads headline will only see what the chosen critics think. A power company representative gets his quote, but it is way down in the story.

We no longer live in a society that values personal society. Don’t pay your mortgage…the government will rescue you. Don’t pay your electric bill. Go ahead and use that money for drugs, because the liberals will take the electric company to court if they try to deny you service.

That is the blatant liberal bias on the Philadelphia Inquirer. There is a subtle bias as well.

Above the fold is a story about 10 soldiers who earned Silver Stars in Afghanistan. Finally, a story about herosim in the war against terrorist. Maybe I am cynical, but the Philadelphia Inquirer has a long history of bias.

How could this be bias? Because Barack Obama has stated that he thinks the central war on terror is in Afghanistan and not in Iraq. This is an attempt to get the public behind the new president for what may turn out to be a bloody conflict. He will need public support if things don’t go as planned.

Governor Rod Blagojevich has been under investigation for corruption for quite some time. He started trying to enrich himself even before the election. It makes you wonder if the election outcome would have been different if news of the investigation was released before the election.

It was one thing for Barack Obama to have relationships with a racist pastor and a unrepentant terrorist. To many Americans, your pastor and friends are not an indication to how you will lead. Making political alliances with someone as corrupt as Blagojevich is different. It is inexcusable.

Barack Obama claimed to have the judgment to be president. He certainly didn’t have the experience and he didn’t argue policy. His only dubious claim to superior judgment was his opposition to the Iraq War. Even if you believe that the Iraq War was a mistake, Obama has failed the test in so many other

Tony Resko, Pastor Wright and Bill Ayers were windows where we could take a sneak peek at his judgement. Now we find that Obama’s poor judgment led him to work closely with a corrupt governor. That is all in the past, but can we expect anything better in the future?

There are currently 22 Republican governors and 31 Democratic governors (includes territories-LINK). I have put together a list of scandals involving governors. Let me know if I forgot any.

(D) New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey resigned after admitting to an inappropriate appointment of a homosexual lover (2004)

(D) New York Governor Elliot Spitzer resigned after a scandal involving a prostitute (2007)

(R) Connecticut Governor resigned after a gift scandal (2004)

(D) Puerto Rico Governor Anibal Acevedo Vila indicted for campaign finance corruption and money laundering (2008)

(D) Illinois Governor Blagojevich arrested for corruption charges relating to the appointment of Barack Obama’s vacated Senate Seat. (2008)

Hmm…it looks like that corruption thing is not a Republican affliction.

It won’t be long before corruption in the Obama White House makes the news. The mystique will ware thin and Obama’s tactic to discounting anyone close to him claiming they are just an acquaintance will not work.

Will the culture of corruption will be the downfall of Barack Obama?

The governor of Illinois has been arrested for corruption (LINK). What a shock. Who would have thought the Illinois and Chicago were corrupt? Some have described this scandal as “evil”. I wouldn’t go that far. I wouldn’t even say it was surprising.

The right wing blogs are all over the failure of the MSM to label Governor Blagojevich. Must of the claims are from TV coversage. That seems about right. The “How Obama Got Elected” video shows the effects of blantant media’s bias.

This story was too big to ignore…so are the TV coverage is ignoring the party in charge.

I did my own analysis of MSM coverage on the web. Here is the run down as of 12/9/2008, 1:22 pm

  • ABC New..no party label (LINK)
  • CBS News…has him labeled as a Democrat in paragraph 3 (LINK)
  • NBC News…has him labeled as a Democrat in paragraph 5 (LINK)
  • CNN… labeled as a Democrats in paragraph 4(LINK)
  • AP….labeled as a Democrat in paragraph 7 (LINK)
  • Reuters…labeled him a fellow Democrat Barack Obama in the 1st paragraph (LINK)

The AP has the Corruption story and another about Senator Craig’s sex scandal. It is interesting to see how the stories and the party label differ.

Only ABC News failed to mention Governor Blagojevich’s party. It seems as though this is not an issue on the MSM web sites.

So…corruption in Illinois is not a surpised. Labelling Governor Blagojevich as a Democrats is a surprise…at least to me.

Barney Franks is warning of a disaster if the auto companies fail (link). Excuse me while I suppress laughter. Franks is the clown who told us in the spring that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were in good shape.

Franks is consistent. He rewards failure and punishes success. He is a poster child for such thinking. His over sight of the GSE’s was a complete failure and yet he has more power than ever.

Norm Coleman won the Minnesota Senate race…then he won the recount battle against bitter Al Franken. Now it is up to Harry Reid to let the results stand. The 60 vote majority is out of reach. So as I said earlier, I expect this battle to be left un-faught.

The follow up to “How Barack Obama Got Election”:

John Ziegler created a video that showed the lack of knowledge of some Obama voters. Along with a Zogby poll, the results show that many Obama voters had a very limited knowledge about politics and issues…but they did know about Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter. To me, it seemed like many people got their news from grocery store tabloids.

John Ziegler believes that the results reflect media coverage.

When the poll came out, many people asked about McCain voters. That was missing the point of the poll…but John Ziegler followed up and did ask some of these questions. He appeared on Hannity and Colmes to discuss his finding (video below). Judging from Alan Colmes question…he still doesn’t get it.

Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss has won his re-election bid in a run-off and killed any hope of the Democrats gaining the 60 votes needed to overturn filabusters on a partyline vote. (LINK)

This changes Harry Reid’s political calculations. The rewards for thwarting the voters of Minnesota just deminished. I hope that the Democrats will now step forward and tell Franken that he has lost and it is time to move on.
