UPDATE: England has frozen the Iranian assets. It looks like Iran was trying to get out while they could instead of a pre-emptive withdrawa. That’s good.
When Iran acts up, the west freezes it’s assets. Is this a bad sign?
Iran has withdrawn around $75 billion from Europe to prevent the assets from being blocked under threatened new sanctions over Tehran’s disputed nuclear ambitions, an Iranian weekly said. (LINK)
It can’t be good. If we are lucky, the economy of Iran will collapse before they nuke Isreal.
Ireland has rejected the European Union’s new constitution. The constitution would reverse their course of low taxes that has helped to make the Irish economy one of the strongest in Europe. The rest of the European Union sees Ireland’s low taxes as an unfair advantage since most of Europe has expensive soicialist programs. The European Union therefore would drag Ireland down to their level.
I congratulate the Irish people on their courage to stand up to their socialist neighbors. Keep up the good fight.
The last Democrat to win the Presidency ran on a platform that promised a middle class tax cut, and then Bill Clinton raised taxes. You would be hard pressed to make the case that Barack Obama is more of a centris then Bill Clinton…so what should we make of Barack Obama’s promise?
I for one don’t believe him at all. He says he will pay for his cut by raising the taxes on the wealthy. That is typical populist class envy rhetoric for a typiclal liberal.
The problem is that the money just won’t be there. The wealthy have the resources to avoid taxes. If you raise the tax rate on the wealthy, they just switch the compensation packages and use complciated tax shelters that are not available to the rest of us. What always happens is that the amount of money project to come in from such taxes never materializes.
He also says he will end the Iraq war and this will save us money. Again, I think he bluster about pulling out of Iraq is an election year ploy. If he gets to be president, I predict that he will waffle on pulling out the troops. It is amazing how being in power and making the decisions is so much harder than sitting on the sidelines telling everyone how you could do it better. If he pulls our troops out of Iraq and the place falls apart in a violent mess, if Iran takes over, if the terrorist get control of the oil money of the regions…he will go down as one of the worst presidents in history.
Obama will find that staying the course is the safest course of action. Have we ever seen this guy take a bold stance on anything? No…he will stay the course and there will be no savings from pulling out of Iraq.
Next he says that we will save money from alternative fuel sources eventually, and I am sure that middle class tax cut will come right after those alternative fuel savings are realized.
In the meantime, get ready for a middle class tax increase from the most consistant liberal in the US Senate.
If Barack Obama is trying to make up for his dumb quote about bitter Pennsylvanians and guns, on Friday he said,
If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun
What is he saying here…I have never been in a fight? You don’t wait to see if your opponent is going to bring a knife. You have to predetermine that you are going with a gun. Is he saying that he plans on fighting unfairly?
Beside the appearance that Barack has never been in a fight, his statement reminds me (A Pennsylvanian) that the only kind of gun Obama knows anything about is the “proverbial gun”. He would ban all other guns.
Where is Mr. Civility? Where is the guy that wants to change politics. He sounds like a Clinton.
After a whole day of turmil, Obama threw his VP adviser under the bus today (LINK)
Let’s review Obama reaction when the going gets tough:
The Surge will fail
Jeremiah Wright (crazy uncle)…Under the bus
His (typical) white grandma…Under the bus
Bill Ayers (Just a guy in my creepy neighbor)…Under the bus
Bush may have too much loyalty to advisors, but will Obama ever stick up for an advisor?
If he can’t stand criticism, can he stand up to our enemies?
Obama says he believe that the Bill Of Rights gaurantees the individual right to bear arms. So far so good. However, Obama also believes that local governments have the right to “common sense” laws that restrict the sale of arms.
One law that Obama supports would eliminate the sale of guns within 5 miles of a school. The reality of this law in my town would be to ban the sale of guns since there is no place that meets such a requirement. I imagine that this is the case in many suburban and urban areas.
In towns where there is a sliver of land left, this common sense approach would essentially give veto power for the sale of guns to school boards.
Obama is trying to play the moderate game and “bring people together”. Don’t let him fool you. He has been a far-left radical his whole life…why would he change now?
A kid puts up a lemonade stand in his neighborhood and starts raking in some spare change. Soon, a neighbor puts up another lemonade stands. They both are making money. Now every kid in the neighborhood wants to join in. The President of the Home Owners association steps in to wield influence and to make it extremely difficult for new lemonade stands to get started. Rules are passed that say you need to jump over all sorts of hurdles in the form of permits to open a new stand. It now is virtually impossible to start a new stand.
Years go by and the neighborhood grows. Soon, the two kids can barely keep up with the demand for lemonade. They would like to make more lemonade, but the Home Owners association has dictated that the lemons must be purchased from one particular store. There reasoning is to reduce air pollution caused by driving to the store. There are more lemons to be had at other stores, but rules made with good intentions make them off limits. To make matters worse, the store where they buy the lemons realizes that they have the two kids in a bind. The grocery store raises the price of lemons knowing the kids will buy them anyway. Having no choice, the kids buy them lemons and pass the additional cost along to the customers, keeping their profit of 9 cents per cup the same throughout.
Meanwhile, back in the neighborhood…everyone is wondering why the lemonade got so expensive. They keep drinking it as more and more new homes are built. The kids are making more money then they initially were because of the simple fact that there are more customers and no more lemonade stands.
In this little tale…who caused the problem. Is it the grocery store that is trying to maximize profits, is it the kids that are trying to supply all the neighbors with lemonade that they seem to want regardless of the price. The problem is the rules that have prohibitted more kids from starting stands and limits where the lemons can be purchased?
These fundamentals apply to the complex relationship between Big Oil and Big Government. Our government refuses to let Big Oil explore in known oil producing regions in our own county and then makes it impossible for new competitors to build new refineries. Like the kids making lemonade money, Big Oil is fine with this relationship because it is an impossible barrier for competition. Consequently, we have not seen any new refineries, the supply seems to be dwindling and the prices is sky-rocketing.
The real kick-in-the-pants is the Congress that created the rules now blames Big Oil for a problem that they created and Big Oil was just an accomplice.
The Senate can’t oversee their own restaurant. (Hat tip to Michelle Malkin).
This is too easy. Can’t run a restaurant, how can they run health care…waste of tax dollars…Congress has a lower approval rating then George Bush.
Here’s the Atlas Shrugged quote of the day.
These are some of the lowest-paid workers in our country, and I want to help them…Sherrod Brown (D-OH) speaking of the Senate cafeteria workers.
Yea, help them with our stinkin’ money. How much of my money do you want to pay the guy that washes the trays? If you want to help them, give them your money. You could start by raising the price of the food you buy there.Â
The IRS does not like when you withhold “their” money.
This year, I made a little too much for the amount withheld. On Tax Day, I owed over $1000. I filed and paid on time. The IRS had no problem cashing my check. They did have a problem copying the number to their records. They left off that first “1″. They sent me a bill (with interest) for over $1000.
The IRSÂ was contacted immediately with prove that my taxes were paid in full. So what did they do? They subtracted the $1000 + interest from my “stimulus” check.
Now I have to call and get this mess straightened out.
Liberals want to put the federal government in charge of health care. This IRS problem is an inconvienance. Once they are pulling the strings to our health care system, this level of incompetence will kill someone.
The high price of gasoline and fuel is leading to violent protest around the world. In India, protests have  (LINK)
The state (Srinagar) was brought to a standstill on Monday by opposition parties unhappy about the fuel price rises.
They have accused the central government of “inept handling” of oil prices.
In Malaysia, where fuel is subsidized, violence broke out in long lines caused by the announced and sudden removal of the subsidies. (LINK) The government set price was not able to stay current with the realities of the global market. Malaysia has (had) some of the cheapest gas in South-Eastern Asia. Continuing the subsidies would cost Malaysia $14 billion dollars this year.
In Spain, truckers blocked the border (LINK)Â to protest the rising cost of diesel. They are paying $7.73 per U.S. gallon is largely a result of taxation.
When the government controls the price of gas, the people expect the government to keep the price low. Who understands world markets and macro economics? It is much easier to grandstand for the poor and the needy than it is to explain the high price of fuel.
We may bitch and moan about the oil companies raking in profits while we go broke filling our cars, but our situation is much less risky then being able to vote people into office who will promise low fuel prices. Once the promise makers get into office, they will have two option. Demonize the oil companies sending them into retraction (think gas shortage) or they will steal from another sector in the economy to pay for fuel (think high taxes). It is better left to the free market.
The promise makers also like to advocate future technological advances as the solution. Tax dollars have been diverted to wonderful solutions. We have been hearing these promises for years and have nothing to show for it. What’s going on here? Elected officials use your money to invest in very risky businesses. The reason Wall Street didn’t throw money into these business and technologies is because of the risk. The promise makers are playing with their own money. They are playing with yours…and they have been wasting it for years.
Government is not the solution to our fuel prices. Often times, they are the problem. Giving them further control of our energy sources will only lead to violence and chaos…as it has in other countries.
Accoring to Russia’s new president, (link)
An underestimation of risks by the largest financial companies together with the aggressive financial policy of the world’s largest economy led not only to corporate losses; unfortunately, the majority of people on the planet became poorer
If we are to blame for making the planet poorer, then should we not get the credit also for the growing global wealth? How much did Russians ever add to global wealth? The only reason they didn’t collaspse is because the US Bailed them out. Did that make the planet poorer?
Then our Commerce Secretary, Carlos Gutierrez , steals a play from the Socialist Playbook:
We could help food prices to come down. We could help 500 million people to get out of poverty. Every country has to make some sacrifices.
We could lower the price of food by drilling for know oil resources, by turning coal to oil and by eliminating the ethanol regulations and susidies, but that would not be a “sacrifice”.
To a sociailist, there commerce is a zero-sum game. In order for one to gain, someone else must lose. This outlook leads to everyone losing.
What the socialized leaders of the world want is wealth redistribution on a national level. They want rich countries (The United States) to fund poor countries (Just about everyone else). Watch out for these people. They are un-elected and un-accountable. These are the kind of people who take and rape. History has recorded this path before an it always ends in a massive tragedy.
May was nearly 1 deg F below the average temp for the last 113 years (LINK). The last month above the global warming trend line was 7 months ago. Gas prices are over $4 per gallon. The jobless rate rises.
The global warming cap & trade, economy killing bill in the Senate was perfectly timed…for a skeptic. THe Democrats punted and pulled the bill.
I guess they only want to kill the economy…not their political careers.
Will Hillary’s supporters vote for McCain? Obviously, some will and most will not. Will the number be enough to effect the outcome?
Dom Giordano gave his opinion on the radio today. He thinks that most of Hillary’s supporters are angry now, but eventually they will come to realize that Barack Obama is more in line with what they want.
He is making a fatal flaw in my opinion. He is assuming that Hillary’s supporters were supporting her because of substance with hours of reflection and thought about their philosophy.
That’s not how a large percentage of liberals tick. In Hillary’s case, many just wanted to see a woman become President. Many just go with emotion or a “gut feeling’. Whoopi Goldberg admitted this to Bill O’ Reilly. She told him that he based his opinions on facts and logic, but that she went on a feeling.
I have seen the result of this many times. You can use facts and logic with some people and even when they are clearly wrong, they go with the way they “feel”. Facts and logic just slide away from their teflon brains.
Will five months be enough for these feeling to dissipate. Liberals have despised George Bush for nearly eight years now…so we know these people can hold on to a grudge. Barack Obama can’t fill the female void. He can’t become a woman in five months (although he bowls like a little girl).  His angry wife is not going to be an asset. He will probably keep her low key from here until November.
Ask yourself this. If your wife’s car battery died and she needed jumper cables, who do you think she would approach for help; the old white guy with the bad comb-over, or the young black guy who looks like a lawyer looking down his nose at you.
These are the kind of feelings some voters use when deciding who gets the most important job in America. So Dom Giordano, stop trying to use your facts and logic to figure out how Hillary’s supporters are going to vote.
