2008 May

Speaking of dropping out of the Presidential race, Hillary told a bunch of newspaper editors that,

My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. (LINK)

What was Hillary trying to say here? Was she saying that campaigns have run into June in the past or that it is likely that a bitter redneck just might shoots Barrack Obama?

Since the press is openly supporting Obama and he is as sensitive as road rash, I would say that the press is using this opportunity to hammer Hillary for stating a fact. I think it is clear that the RFK assassination is a vivid memory for her mind and she hopes that by invoking the assassination people will recall a time when primaries lasted into the summer.

Hillary should not have apologized. She should have clarified what she was trying to say and leave it at that. This would have shown that she has a back bone and the willingness to stand up to left wing cry-babies.

UPDATE: RFK, Jr agrees with me (LINK)

Oops…did I almost say that I wanted to “socialize” the oil industry?

What a surprise. Maxine Waters wants to follow in the foot steps of Hugo Chavez.

UPDATE: I had to share what passes for thought from a lefty

If their was a state run oil company for all federal lands where federal prisoners could be sent and school kids could earn their college tuition, vagrants could get a new start on life, I think it would be win win win.

So if you work for an oil company….BEWARE. The left wants to replace you with criminals, teenagers out of high school, and vagrants. Apparently, your job is so easy that just about any moron could do it. That’s just what this county need..morons in charge of our energy infrastructure that transports a highly volatile gas.

The law of supply and demand says that if demand increases and the supply remains unchanged, the price will increase. That is a basic economic principal that has been witnessed time and time again.

Accoring to the Energy Information Administration (LINK), world consumption of oil is expected to increase by 1.2 million barrels a day, but here in the U.S.

Total petroleum consumption of liquid fuels and other petroleum products averaged 20.7 million bbl/d in 2007, essentially unchanged from 2006 (U.S. Petroleum Products Consumption Growth).  Based on projections of weak economic growth and record high crude oil and product prices, consumption is projected to decline by 190,000 bbl/d in 2008.

To recap, demand in the US has not increased. World consumption has increase. The World supply has stayed pretty flat due to the fact that we are near capacity now.  There seems to be no end to the trend.

So CAFE standards, clean air laws, global warming reductions and grandstanding in front of oil executive won’t lower the global demand for oil. The only thing that will lower the price of the gasoline you buy is if Washington stops getting in the way of production…or if we just stop driving…and heating our homes…and fertilizing our crops…and using plastic products.

In other words, get used to expensive gas and stop looking for the evil genius behind the curtain.

Barrack Obama wants to sit down with the Iranians to talk.

Forget that the little Iranian goof-ball, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is a nut job…the European countries have been talking to him for years trying to get Iran to halt its nuclear program. While they talked, Iran continued toward their nuclear goal.

Now Barrack Obama may give a good speech (with empty rhetoric), but he claims that his skill as a talker can actually stop what so many have tried for years…simply by talking.

Only an arrogant lawyer could believe such nonsense.

Can’t you just a Neville Chamberlain type statement coming (I believe it is peace for our time, 1938)…right before the Middle East explodes into total chaos.

Barack is not a new liberal. He is using the same playbook that liberals have been using for years.

He sends his wife out to campaign for him, and then when people criticize what she says the tell them to lay off.  (LINK) Like the 9/11 Widows or Cindy Sheehan, Michelle Obama is another untouchable liberal.

So much for change.

Barack Obama has an excuse for why he is trailing in Kentucky.

“What it says is that I’m not very well known in that part of the country,” Obama said. “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.” (LINK)

The last time I checked, his home state Illinois shares a border with Kentucky. I wonder if Obama is the Chicago Senator or if he thinks the mythical 7 states lies between Kentucky and Illinois.

A soldier who has been in the Army for 6 years refused to go to Iraq on the grounds that it is an illegal war (LINK). The congress approved it. The UN approved it. George Bush actually followed through with his threat…something this country badly needed after eight long years of Clintonian responses.

Now this soldier believes it is an illegal war.

I have never been a soldier, so I can’t speak to their codes. Is he qualified to makes such a claim? He joined the army right after high school. I am guessing he is not an expert in International law. Here’s what he says about himself:

I was from a poor, white family from the south, and I did badly in school

Illegal war…poor southerner…bad grades…stuck in the military. He sounds like a Democratic talking point.  He is making a political statement. He should go to the brig for a long time.

The definition of a threatened species has changed. (LINK) The Interior Department has added polar bears to the threatened species list because continued warming could lead to reduced artic ice. Of course, the global models have been wrong in the past. They failed to predict the cooling we have experienced over the last 8 years.

The scary part is that the government is using computer models to predict future endagered species. It is no longer good enough to help species with populations at risk. The government is now extending its power to include theoretical indangered species.

This seems like a huge leap of faith that 1) the government is skilled enough to predict the future and the 2) this power will be used only for saving threatened animals. I can see a time in the very near future (January 2009) when the government uses this power to regulate all kinds of industries in the name of protecting animals whose populations have been modeled as threatened.

What’s next. Models that predict future criminal activity as in “Minority Report

Barack Obama wants you to vote for “Change”. So Change is a good thing.

This just in: The globe has been cooling for 8 years and will continue to cool for until 2015…then start warming again. (Yea…they didn’t see the cooling coming, but they are certain the warming will start again)

It’s no longer Global Warming we need to fight. The real fight is against global climate “change”.

Barack Obama wants to fight Global Climate Change. So Change is a bad thing.

It’s so confusing. Is “change” good or bad?

This year will be the toughest vote I have ever had to make.

I couldn’t vote for Clinton or Obama. I find both of them to be socialist who refused to be labelled. They don’t even like the label liberal.

Obama is so impressed with himselve that he believe he can “negotiate” with Iran. Hillary is a power hungry political animal who makes Richard Nixon look like a pussy cat. Both would raise taxes and increase the power of the federal government.

There is John McCain. I am a big fan of John McCain. He sounds like a hell of guy. He also sounds like a wishy-washy moderate. My state (Pennsylvanai) has a wishy-washy moderate sentor in Arlen Specter. I can count on him to vote opposite my views nearly 75% of the time.

John McCain’s latest transgression was his speech on Global Climate “Change”. McCain endorses the ridiculous cap and trade scheme and has set an unattainable goal of reducing CO2 emmission to 60% of 1990 levels. That will only happen if we kill about 10 million people and capture the green house gases from the rotting corpses.

A cap and trade system is typical of someone who finds evil in competition. Any company that does well and expands will have to pay companies that under-perform. This will hurt the best producers and help the worst. Does that make sense to anyone?

John McCain would most likely nominate wishy-washy moderate judges, continue to erode protections provided by the first ammendment and sign an amnesty bill. The only redeeming presedential quality I see in him is his tenacity in times of trouble and his support for the war on radical Islam.

All this leaves me wondering who to vote for. Right now I am leaning toward a vote for John McCain only because of his position on fighting the war. I think that the Republicans should put up a show in the Presidential race and put forth a 100% effort in winning back the Senate. Without a conservative veto in the White House, I think the Senate can be the firewall against bad liberal policy. Unfortunately, it may be impossible to win back the Senate without winning the Presidency.

I talked to an engineer last week. His job is to monitor pollution from the stacks of power plants. He explained that things are changing in Maryland.

He said (with eyes rolling) that Maryland will soon have hard caps. The current system calls for power companies to pay a penalty for exceeding government pollution limits. In the near future, these caps will be replaced by hard caps. If they reach the limit, they will have to shut down the plant. The initial caps will limit the NOX emissions, soon to be followed by SOX caps. Starting in 2012, the caps will be lowered.

It will be his job to monitor the pollution so they can make intelligent business decision. They plan on shutting down the turbines when they can purchase power at a cheaper rate. They will stay under the limit so that they can produce power when the going market rates are elevated.

This makes me wonder. In order to reduce pollution, Marylands is forcing power companies to purchase out-of-state power. The cheapest fuel around is coal. There are many coal burning plants in neighboring states. Many of these plants use older technologies. If they drive electric production out of state, they lose control. It is very likely that they will increase pollution (even in their own state) by setting hard caps.

If every state were to implement similar measures, you can bet that we would have a power shortage. I would expect rolling black outs during peak demand.

Unintended consequences may strike again.

Senator Arlen Spector wrote an editorial for the Philadelphia Inquirer this week end explaining his support for a law that would give journalists special legal protection. He is concerned for the journalists that protect the identity of sources.

I would point Senator Spector to the Equal Protection clause. Journalists deserver no more protection than any other citizen.  If a journalist can withhold the source of information, why should the rest of us be held to a different standard. Are journalist special? Over the years, many journalist have proved to be nothing but political hacks.

What is a journalist? Is a blogger a journalist? Is a reporter for a high school paper a journalist? Would a high school senior writing for Central High have more rights than a major blogger?

If protecting sources is important for journalist, then it is important for everyone.

Watch the video of Barack Obama saying he has been to 57 states. (LINK)

Obviously, Obama has misspoke. Or as my father would say…he had a senior moment. Can you just imagine the ridicule from the left if George Bush or John McCain made such an idiotic statement?

Hillary says that Americans want to elect a President that will take care of them and their families.

I certainly can’t speak for all Americans, but this American is not looking for a baby sitter. I am looking for a President that will be a check on the House and Senate, someone who will oversee a justice department that enforces the law, one that nominates Justices that believe in the Constitution as it is written and someone who will not negotiate for American interests without giving away our national sovereignty.
